Before the move to Eurycaulis genus this species are known as Dendrobium groeneveldtii J.J.Sm.1920, This orchid named follow by name Mr. W. Groeneveldt at the year 1920 with specimen taken from Bukit Batu Banting, Agam, West Sumatra province Indonesia at the year 1920.
Eurycaulis groeneveldtii is more similar to Dendrobium derryi, but they have a different size on the lip and stem, E. groeneveldtii lips, and stem longer than D.derryi. according to world checklist from KEW Eurycaulis groeneveldtii have code 42 SUM its mean the distribution of this species just in Sumatra different with Dendrobium derryi with code 42 BOR MLY SUM that means D. derryi can be found at Malaysia Sumatra till Borneo.
