Plant : Helminthostachys zeylanica from Rejang Land Sumatra

Helminthostachys zeylanica is a terrestrial, herbaceous, fern-like plant of southeastern Asia and Australia,but i  don't know what the common name in Rejang Land. The genus Helminthostachys is monotypic and, just like the other members of its family, it has clusters of sporangia on stems of fertile, spike-like fronds.

The rhizome of this annual plant is short, creeping, underground, and stout. They can bear either a solitary frond or several fronds. Leaves are lanceolate with the margins entire or irregularly serrate.

The frond spike arises from the base of the leaves with its own stipe. Below the spike is a sterile leafy segment (the trophophore). Both it and the sporophore arise from a common petiole.

this plant can be use for medicine to treat bleeding and headache

Culture : Mengandak

Mengandak  comes from the word andak, in the Rejang language means "stop", so can be interpreted as  "stop in place"

when they are dancing and move near to the border, they will stop dancing, they are not satisfied with dancing, so the dancers express what they feel through sambai.both man and woman dancers sit againts each others in the middle of hall, which redap, lamps, baskets of betel are put in front of them, both man and woman  hold  their fan,then cover their faces.While  accompanied  by elder of sambai  They will deliver their words and reciprocated rhyme to each others in sambai, Once satisfied deliver his words, each of them stood up to dance again.

from hand movements, fingers and worship can represent their understanding, whether they are not agree or disagree to their partner. For example, when the first worship comes, they will release their right hand off to the right or down.

Sambai andak is performed during kejei, sambai usually is not related with sumbai, because the bachelor Bachelorette  sambai have different languages and rhythms.

Fruit : Kisip Fruit (Baccaurea.sp ) from Rejang Land Sumatra

"Kisip Ijat Mileak" ( Kisip Red Seed ) that is pharase in rejang people, Kisip fruits (Baccaurea.sp ) is simmilar with rambai fruit (Baccaurea dulcis ) but kisip  have small size than rambai, the pulp is red  and gives a sweet and slightly sourish taste.
